Our story begins in 1920, when Emery Stedman moved from Ohio to the small town of Newfane NY on the shores of Lake Ontario in 1920. He had just graduated from Michigan University and was looking to start a plant nursery. He started growing fruit trees and selling them to the local farms, as the region is known for the apples and cherries orchards all along the lakeshores.
His purchase of the 20 acres of property in Newfane is where we still operate our garden center, nursery and landscape operation today. The Garden center Building that emery built in 1950 is still in use today.
Ownership of the nursery has only changed hands twice, once in 1972 when Richard Rybolt purchased the nursery, from Emery’s son. Rybolt then sold it to the Employees in 1994. Being a 100% employee owned and operated since then. Rybolt started landscaping in the 70s. Today we continue to provide the area with award-winning designs. Winners of 27 design awards, in both residential and commercial landscaping.
Today 105 years later we continue to operate our growing farms. Over the years we have had many good and bad times but always kept our roots in growing top quality plants hardy to WNY harsh weather.
Growing most of what we sell is what has separated us from our many competitors over the years.

We have many sales throughout the year. As a grower of many plants that we sell. This allows us to sell directly to consumers with no middleman markups. We call it buy direct from grower and save.
We sell all types of shade and flowering trees in many sizes. We also sell many plants and shrubs that are hardy to WNY weather. We have perennials in many sizes. Annuals and hanging baskets in the springtime. Bulk mulches and bagged soils picked up or delivered. A planting service for those in need of some help. Free advice and design help.
